As I mentioned a few weeks ago, shopping at rummage sales and Goodwill has saved our family a lot of money and has also increased our cash-flow as I’ve found items to resell on eBay. I love the hunt and the savings! (Check out my original post here.)
The best find and also the most disappointing find for the week was the Indiana Jones Game of Life. I was so excited to have found this game and had quickly looked through the box while I was at Goodwill; it seemed like everything was there. This game is a special edition, is no longer sold in stores and is pricey if you buy it new. I figured we could keep it or I could sell it.
Unfortunately when I got it home and we looked through it we found that the spinner was missing, which of course is a very important piece in the game. Snootz absolutely loves games and was so excited that I had gotten this. He did not want to sell it, which I kind of figured would happen, and he wanted to play it as soon as possible.
We played it a couple of times, using dice, but I don’t think the game played as well as if we had the spinner, because we ended up with a majority of high number rolls. It’s a fun game though and seems to be a “keeper”, so I will either buy a regular Game of Life on another trip to Goodwill so we can use it’s spinner or I will buy an Indiana Jones spinner off of eBay. The Indiana Jones spinner is more than I want to pay, but it has a plastic mold of Indiana’s hat and whip in the center and of course is way more awesome than the regular one, so we’ll see.
I also bought the Wiggles talking and singing Octopus to resell. This wouldn’t have been a good buy all on it’s own but I have some other Wiggles items I am going to sell and thought adding this in might sweeten the lot a bit and make it more appealing and in turn, sell for a little more.
Our girls have enjoyed My First Sticky Mosaics so when I saw this box of Ladybug Sticky Mosaics I had to check it out. Three out of the four boards were untouched and all the stickers were in the box. For $0.99 it was an easy decision because a new box of Sticky Mosaics with all four boards usually sells for $15-20.
Lastly, I bought a bunch of books for $0.59 each. I found seven workbooks in brand new condition with no writing at all in them. Five of them are for our four-year-olds and two of them for our almost seven-year-old. The children have really been interested in Look and Find books lately so I also bought The Incredibles Look and Find and an I Spy book. Both are hardcovers and in very good condition.
So, here’s a run-down of what I purchased in one Goodwill shopping trip this week:
- Indiana Jones Game of Life – $2.99
- The Wiggles Octopus – $1.99
- Ladybug Sticky Mosaics – $0.99
- 7 Books @ $0.59 each – $5.31
Grand Total: $11.86
I’m hoping to find more items I can sell in these upcoming weeks. I really don’t want to bring more into our house that will stay in our house. As you can imagine, our children really don’t need more. Plus we have Christmas and Snootz’s birthday coming up next month.
Additionally, I am using the money I make from eBay sales to save up for something. Maybe I’ll tell you what it is after I reach my goal but right now I’m less than 1/4 of the way there. I was over 3/4 of the way to reaching my goal and then Joey and I decided to use that money for karate lessons for Snootz. I was glad to do it but honestly also a little bummed to start back at zero. However, this is the best time of the year to sell on eBay so I am very hopeful to reach my goal by the end of the year!
