We have a set of lacing cards that was handed down to us by my wonderful sister who has shared so many of her girls’ things with us that they no longer use. There are six different cards in the box and our children have liked them but it’s nice to have some more variety, so recently I was eyeing up other lacing cards and I particularly like the Melissa and Doug sets. They look to be very good quality and I know our children would like them. If we didn’t already have a set I probably would buy them but that doesn’t seem like the best way to spend $10 since we DO already have a set of lacing cards.
I’ve seen free lacing card printables on other sites and I figured I could just make my own. Since I already have all the supplies I needed on hand and it’s basically just the cost of using those items, I decided to go for it. And I love how they turned out!
Here’s how I made them:
- I found some free illustrations that I could download. You can do a search on Google for whatever type of graphic you are looking for. I went to a free image sharing site for the ones I downloaded.
- I printed them onto card stock. I printed mine at about 60% of the page because I didn’t want them to be too large.
- I laminated them and then cut them out.
- I used a hole punch to punch holes around the outside edges. You can punch the holes wherever you think it makes sense.
Here are the supplies you’ll need for the project:
(These are great items that can be used for lots and lots of things! However, if you don’t think you would use them much in your own home than it obviously wouldn’t be cost effective to purchase them for this lacing card project.)
- Laminating Pouches
- Card stock
- Hole punch
These are some of the Melissa and Doug sets if you’d prefer to purchase lacing cards rather than make your own.
This is the lacing card set that we have. These are no longer available new and only preowned sets can be purchased.
You might remember these three working on these lacing cards last year during H is for Hippo week.
Have fun and enjoy lacing with your children!
