Our kids love to go to a nearby aquarium and watch the fish swim around. Summer is a great opportunity for children to fall in love with reading again (or for the first time!) because they don’t have the pressure of school, tests and required reading. Even for homeschoolers who may have more flexibility during the year than traditional schoolers it is a change from the daily schedule (for those of us who take a summer break).
During these summer months children can pick out books that interest them and read for the pure enjoyment of it. Children will often read more and can gain a love and appreciation for books.
Our children love stories with animals in them, especially because there are so many amazing authors and illustrators who bring the animal characters to life through their writing and illustrations. These books are no exception. The children and I enjoyed all of these fiction picture books with cow characters in them and there are a couple of good non-fiction cow books in the mix too.
Bats are fascinating for both boys and girls and when I recently searched for bat books to read with our twin girls I was pleased to find several sweet stories about a momma and her baby bat. Who knew that a book about a bat could make a mom get all emotional and teary-eyed? Not that it happened to me or anything. 😉
